Train is the best way to go to West Java Province from Jakarta.
Regular trains (almost every hour) connects Jakarta and Bandung also to other cities. Actually every train leaving Jakarta wil take you to West Java.
The commuter trains connect Jakarta to the nearby cities around the metropolitan (Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok), some of the commuter trains are express class with AC and they stop only at certain stations. The other commuter trains stop at almost every stations.
Intercity trains divided into 4 classes: economy (slow, very cheap, stops in almost every station but great fun if you travelling with a group of friends and you get the chance to interact with people), business (stops only in main stations) - non AC, executive (same as business but with AC), and the executive plus (with AC, newer & more comfortable carriages).
The prices are varied depends on the class & the route.
From Jakarta the best place to get information is from Gambir Station
