    Kapuas river, ferry and bridge

    by theo1006 Written Nov 23, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As said elsewhere Pontianak town lies on the bank of Kapuas river, which with 1143 km is the longest river in Indonesia. Until a bridge was inaugurated early in 1982 the only way to get across the river was by boat or ferry. The ferry is still operative, because it runs from the centre of town, whereas to cross by the bridge one makes a detour of several km. If you want to go north (to Singkawang), you even have to pass another bridge. That one crosses Landak river, which joins Kapuas river just upstream of the ferry.

    FLY JAKARTA-PONTIANAK

by meiyergani Written Jul 11, 2012

There are many Airline Services which connected Jakarta and Pontianak, Garuda Indonesia, Batavia Airline, Sriwijaya Air and Kalstar Airline.
It would take about one and a half hours and the prices is competitive between Airlines.

Garuda is more reliable than the others, the schedule almost in time and the price almost the same if compare with the others but the service is more better, you could book online at www.garuda-indonesia.com or by phone call at +62.21.23519999 and pay by credit card or by debit card. You can get a good promotion price if you are booking early in advance

Siwijaya: www.sriwijaya.co.id and Batavia: www.bataviaair.com this two airlines would be better if you book from a travel agent.

    Renting a self-drive car

    by theo1006 Written Nov 22, 2014

We rented a self-drive car - Toyota Avanza - from Asia Taxi, owner mr Antoni, for Rp 250,000 ex petrol a day. We had the car for twelve days and got as far east as Ngabang in Landak regency and as far north as Paloh in Sambas regency. Call mr Antoni on mobile 0813 4547 7668, he delivers the car to your hotel.
As for public transport, buses ride frequently along the coastal route Pontianak - Mempawah - Singkawang - Sambas. There are also several 'travel; companies; a 'travel' is a shared minibus offering door-to-door service. Ask your hotel or the Tourist Office.

Around Pontianak, can be reached by boat also, since this city has the longest river in Indonesia; Sungai Kapuas. Meanwhile, from Pontianak to Singkawang can be reached by bus about 4 hours.
