Lombok doesn't have much in the way of exciting shopping like Bali does.
Instead what you have at Lombok, are traditional handicrafts which are surprisingly a good bargain and of good international quality. Banyumolek, a village is one of the 2 known for its quality pottery.
We were pleasantly surprised at the standard and intricate designs/workmanship of the pottery industry in Lombok and bought several pots and decorative vases which amounted to about 300,000R.
Furthermore, they will pack it well for air travel.
What to buy: Aside from pottery, Lombok is also known for its quality pearls (jewellery), weaved cloths and limestone carvings. They also make wooden furniture, wooden craftsworks for export at a fraction of the price you pay in your own country....from expensive woods like teak and mahogany.
Me....I can't bear the thought of cannabalising precious natural resources but the choice is up to you.

The Handycraft of Lombok is very popular, some are exported to other countries like Hongkong, Japan, and European countries.
But we still can buy this in Lombok.
If we buy clay pottery, then they will pack it in a box such a way, so we're not afraid of breaking it in the flight baggage.
What to buy: Ikat is woven fabric, it's a unique souvenir to bring back home. Some are very expensive.
Centre of pottery is in Banyumulek, about half an hour from Mataram.
Pearls of Lombok is exported to some countries so don't forget to visit the pearls-shop village and silver/goldsmith in Lombok and buy some rings and necklace.
What to pay: Ikat with size 1 x 2 m price is from Rp 50.000 up (5US$), pottery minimal price is about 5000 RP (0.5 US$), pearls is more expensive depend on the quality. Freshwater pearl is cheaper than sea pearls.

I cannot visit a village or a town without strolling at the local market. That's where the heart of the locals beats. Try the contact with the locals and you won't be desappointed.
Taste the fresh fruits, they are delicious.
