Luggage and bags: Locks and waterproof cover for your luggage – it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: In Padang and in most part of Sumatra like Bengkulu, Palembang, Pekanbaru, the wet season falls between October and April, the wettest months are January and February that can make travel more difficult. The weather is still hot and more humid, but the January to February rains can come in sudden tropical downpours, and or it can also rain nonstop for a whole day.
Bring plenty of socks to wear while wearing shoes, folding umbrella, a light waterproof rain jacket (heavy plastic raincoat might be too warm for the humid tropics), long pants and/or jeans, shorts, T-shirts, and flip flops.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, toilet paper, anti malarial pills, analgesic pills, Antihistamine pills for any allergic reactions.
Photo Equipment: Zip lock bags for use in protecting your camera equipment, travel documents, etc. It's a good idea to bring extra batteries and SD cards, in case you go someplace where you can’t buy replacement stocks.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Flashlight, mosquito repellent & sarong.
Miscellaneous: Electrical systems in most Southeast Asian countries use different voltages. Bring a transformer or adapter if your electronic devices don’t work properly with the local electricity.
Hope it helps.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Most people in Padang are Islamic, some Katholic. Islamic woman wear a blouse with long sleeves, and long trousers or a long rok. In their home they wear more comfortable clothes, with short sleeves. Katholic woman also wear blouses with short sleaves, and a rok below the knee. Man wear long trouwers and a shirt with long or short sleeves.
Although some woman wear short sleeves, the most people will really appreciate it if you wear long sleeves and a long dress. You will also get more respect.
A thin big swahl (or selendang) is handy, you can put it over your arms, when you are in an area where most of the people are muslim.
You may need a umbrella to protect yourself from the hot sun, and from the strong rainfall in the evening. And bring sunglasses if you need them (although locals never wear them).
You will never see anybody in swimmingclothes, because that is not done outside your own home!
The sun really burns, you need clothes wich are not tight. Made from thin fabrics, cotton or silk is comfortable.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Suncream, because this place can be very hot.
Photo Equipment: 400 ASA, because of the light!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: A little thin towel is handy to put over your shoulders. It protect your neck from burning and it is easy to wipe your sweat away.
