There is a big marketplace in the centre of Padang, called Pasar Baru. A part of it is at the street, another part is inside.
Inside I saw a lot of batik fabrics. Outside other things. But I didn't had much time, so I have seen only a little part of it.
Ther is also a big warehouse, called: Matahari.
A lot of angkots (little busses) and dokars (wagon with a horse) are waiting at the square. Very colorfull!
What to buy: batik fabrics, clothes, and a lot of other things, like an umbrella to protect you for the hot sunshine.

I suggest you walk in tradtional market and find something interests you.
What to buy: There is really nothing much to buy here in Padang, though it's commercial and political centre in West Sumatra Province. However, some local Indonesian stuff do worth buying. For instance, a leaf hat is very different from the one here in Taiwan or, say, the other countires in Asia. Another thing that is good is local women dress, for each costs about USD30 and up. I also bought two post cards in the airport, and each cost me Rph2,000. What a nice souvenir indeed. Oh, as a Coke fanatic, I bought a can and a bottle. This trip, I am content with what I have already.
