Padang is a great basecamp for surfing at the Mentawai Islands. Boats go from the harbour in Padang-south. The hotel Batang Arau is located at the river Arau, near the harbour. A lot of surfers have allready stayed in this hotel.

Thanks to its location. According to my Tiger Tale magazine from Tiger Airways, Padang is a fabulous place for surfing and diving. Contact your hotel information desk, you would find out more. If you don't have enough money or time like us, why not just make yourself to a pulau ( island ) swimming all day long, enjoying the sunshine, indulging yourself with the scenery.
Equipment: For diving, you can basically rent from the diving centre.
For surfing, take you board with you.
For swimming, yah, no need to mention.
