    Driving Andong

by RoyJava Updated Jul 9, 2005

No, not on horse-back ... driving an "Andong" is travelling by a horse-cart. A two-wheeled carriage is drawn by one horse. In old times only noble families used the Andong in the city, but at Parangtritis the Andong is of a less quality where a totally relaxing atmosphere is provided by the jog of the horse and the sound of the waves. The andong-drivers do not get that much money, still make your bargains. They are used to it ... (we paid about 80.000 Rupiah - 8 Euro for one day)

    We came by taxi...

We took a taxi from Jogya ,
    our time was rather limited.
    Ofcourse we made a deal.

Our cabdriver was a nice guy.
They always keep an eye on you.
He was a bit special as well..
    He had two thumbs
That is not so special ,
    I hear you think that.
But I meant 2 on each hand.

    Also a little warning!
When the sun kisses the ocean ,
    soon it gets dark...
The last busses leave Parangtritis about 18 - 19 o'clock.
    There are no local taxi's.

And maybe it is better to leave the place before
    it seriously gets darK;

    This is what happened
    We had a little accident..
    Not a serious one,
    just banged against a bus..
You know what they do in Indonesia?
    They just drive on.
No need to stop , exchange adresses.
You just keep on driving baby..
