Heat Cloud Of Merapi, Go Far Away

During active priod, Merapi show fall out lava dome evryday.The more active the volcano the more lava dome fallout will be.Large volume of fallout lava dome can create what usually local people call as"wedus Gembel". Scintific term of Wedus Gembel is pyroclatic flow, while general term is Heat Cloud. Heat Cloud cosnsits of ash,dust, gas and slab of volcanic rock with diameter 3 to 5 m. These volcanic material flow down together through the mountain slope with speeds 50 to 100 km/hour wth temperatur 300 to 500 c. There are actually two kind of Heat Cloud:1)Eruption Heat Cloud: This kind of Heat Cloud created by eruption. The Heat Cloud sparated to any directions.2)Fall out Heat Cloud: This kind of Heat Cloud created by the avalanche of lava dome on peak as the lava on peak or steep slope is unstable.The lava flow through river valley .Fall out Heat Cloud usually flows on southern and or...

Early Warning System of Volcano Merapi's Eruption

In Indonesia, the stages of volcano early warning system has been standardized by Vulcanological Survey Of Indonesia (VSI). The standard of early warning system consist:1)Stage (There four stages of early warning).2)Name (each warning stage has name.3)Code (each warning name has a code in color).4)Criteria (each code has criteria).5)Interpretation (each criteria has interpretation).Stage one indicates the volcano is active normal, volcanic event do not indicate changes. While the last stage/four indicates the volcano is in high volcanic activities and predicted will erupt in few hours (24 hours). My last visit to Merapi's peak was on 2007 and the warning stage of volcano at that time was Two. This stage early warning was still safe for me.How ever, I was strongly suggested by vulcanology local officer to not have camp/overnight on peak, but still okey to have camp at PasarBubra.Eruption...

The mount Merapi Volcano could erupt at any time, as quoted by Indonesian President Susilo Banbang Yudhoyono on 16 Apr 2006, which also served as a warning for the people living on the slopes of Mt Merapi in Central Java province. He told that Merapi is currently active and could explode or emit lava from its crater any time. The 2914 m high mountain in the most densely populated province of Indonesia has been increasingly active in last few weeks. Spokesperson from the Vulcanology Research and technology Institute in Yogyakarta has also delivered a similar warning. The local authorities in the four districts around the volcano have banned climbing the Mount Merapi, halted the sand mining operations at its foot and warned people living higher on the slopes to be prepared of possible evacuation.
