After climbing Haguro-san, this is the perfect place to catch your breath and relax. The temple and gardens are reached either by the local bus or taxi and you can spend an hour just taking in the beauty and serenity of the place. All the rooms open onto different aspects of the garden - there is even a smoking room - all that's missing is a gin and tonic......

Take the bus or a taxi to Gyokusenji temple and garden. This is a beautiful, peaceful place to take in the beauty of a small Japanese garden. The rooms all open on to different aspects of the garden - there is even a room with ashtrays, a blissful way to view the garden in absolute peace. The only thing missing was a gin and tonic.....
