Reconstructured Kiyosu Castle Stone Wall

Stone wall structure of Kiyosu castle ruins was found in 1996 and recently reconstructured at the present site about 200 meters upstream from the place the stone wall was originally found. While current castle keep bears few historical basis and most of the castle structures have been lost, this stone walls really has historical value.

Here comes the Shinkansen

Kiyosu Castle area is popular among the train photographers particularly freight cars, and Shinkansen (bullet train) buffs. Shinkansen rail track passes close to the castle keep and watching running Shinkansen from the top floor of Kiyosu castle keep is really exciting. Also red bridge is full of photographers during April when cherry blossoms, carp streamers, Shinkansen and Castle Keep can be photographed in a single frame.

The statue of 26-year-old Nobunaga

The Statue of Young Nobunaga Oda stands at the site of Kiyosu castle about 200 meters downstream of current castle keep. The statue, built in 1936, portrays 26-year-old Nobunaga Oda right before the battle of Okehazama in 1560. Nobunaga Oda won the decisive battle defeating then strong lord of Sumpu(Shizuoka), Yoshimoto Imagawa despite being outnumbered and under bad weather.

Rainy Day At Kiyosu Castle

Kiyosu Castle is best known as the place where young Nobunaga Oda resided as a lord between 1555 and 1563 when Nobunaga moved to Komakiyama castle. It was the castle where the alliance between Nobunaga Oda and Iyeyasu Tokugawa was signed in 1562. Since then the castle had been the stages for important historical events. The castle and entire capital town, however, was moved to Nagoya in 1610 by the order of Iyeyasu Tokugawa. Kiyosu tower of Nagoya castle is said to have been reconstructed by using the materials of Kiyosu Castle keep. Current castle keep, rebuilt in 1989, is actually based on Inuyama castle which is noted for the prevalent castle keep style during late 16th century. Reconstructed castle keep area is more like Samurai drama set than historical site. The Palace of the castle is often used as tea ceremony events and in 2010 it became the stage for the title match of Go. The castle also has a nice dry landscape garden and Nobunaga Bei wall.
