    Check out Nagoya Dome to see the Chunichi Dragons, of the Japanese Professional Baseball League. They made it to the Japan series last year (2004).

    Professional baseball and Soccer

    • There are major baseball team: Chunichi Dragons and soccer team: Nagoya Grampus Eight. Dragons have domed stadium and Grampus Eight have new stadium in Toyota city that is suburb city known for the castle town of Toyota motor company.

    The Nagoya Grampas are the local proessional soccer (football) club. Soccer is becoming a really popular spectator sport in Japan. I think it will overtake baseball soon as the most popular sport. The Grampas play in Toyota Stadium. It's probably the most fantastic-looking stadium I've seen from afar. If you go to Toyota you won't miss it. It's located along a river park. I'm not sure how good the Grampas are, but the stadium draws a lot of fans.

  • Directions: About a 20-minute walk east from Toyota station. Toyota station is about an hour train-ride southeast of Nagoya. Go to Akaike Station on the Tsurumai (blue) line and take the Toyota train.

    The dome is a pretty impressive indoor covered stadium. One weekend, on a lark, we took the subway out and found that even though the Dragons were not playing, there was a Jr. Sumo wrestling for childern being held. We were able to walk down on the field and check it out.
