Shichiri-no-Watashi ferry, 28-kilometer-long ferry service between #41 Tokaido station MIYA(Atsuta) and #42 Kuwana had been essential part of Tokaido travel between Edo(Tokyo) and Kyoto. In 1871 three years after Meiji Restoration, the ferry route was banned. And Tokaido Rail Line and the Route 1 in late 19th century completely changed the situation. And the ferry service was buried just in memory.
In 2008 Shichiri-no-Watashi ferry returned for the first time in 130 years though it was only for special events. Lucky Tokaido walkers can have three-hour ride to Kuwana or vice versa for the ticket price of 3,500 yen. This year(2011) the special ferry service to Kuwana is slated on September 24, October 15, October 29 and November 3. According to the organizer of special ferry service, details will be announced on August 8.

I took the bullet train from Tokyo to Hiroshima & then to Nagoya. Nagoya is about 3 hours from Tokyo & very close to Kobe & Kyoto. Hiroshima is further west & takes about 5 hours from Tokyo. IMHO, the best way to get around the island of Honshu is by the bullet trains. Regular service, punctual & comfortable. For a tourist, the 7 days Japan Rail pass is indispensable. Get it before leaving home!

Yurika makes it easy to pay for your fares on the subway or buses. Plus for some cards you can get value added savings :)
It's a flexible plastic card which you can buy at vending machines at any subway stations in Nagoya.
The official english site is pretty brief.. so here's what i translated from the japanese site
There are a few types :
with discounts for consecutive multiple rides, valid for buses, Meitetsu and subways
For Adults
1) Yurika 500, Value of 500yen, costs 500yen
2) Yurika 1000, Value of 1000yen, costs 1000yen
3) Yurika 2200, Value of 2200yen , costs 2000yen
4) Yurika 3300, Value of 3300yen , costs 3000yen
5) Yurika 5600, Value of 5600yen , costs 5000yen
For Kids
1) Yurika 1100, Value of 1100yen , costs 1000yen
Daytime discount cards, only usable weekdays from 10am to 4pm and all day Weekends, no consecutive ride discount
On Bus Only
1) For Adults Yurika 2800, Value of 2800yen , costs 2000yen
2) For Kids Yurika 1400, Value of 1400yen , costs 1000yen
On Subways Only
1) For Adults Yurika 2400, Value of 2400yen , costs 2000yen
2) For Kids Yurika 1200, Value of 1200yen , costs 1000yen
All cards cannot be topped up, but you can use the remaining value to buy a single trip ticket (with cash top up if necessary), or cash top up directly in case of buses.
All but Yurika 500 and Yurika 1000 can be refunded.

This is a great way to travel around Nagoya city cheaply.
It stops around the major areas in Nagoya like Sakae and JR Nagoya station.
If you buy the Me-guru pass, it's 500yen for an unlimited amount of travel for a single calendar day.
If not a single ride is 200yen for adults.

The Shinkansen is by far the most convenient way to travel around Japan. Unfortunately it isn't very cheap! Luckily there is a Japan JR Rail Pass available to foreign travellers. See the JR East website for details:
It must be bought abroad and stamped in Japan before you can use it. There are several options including one week (unlimited JR travel except for the super fast Nozomi service), two week, JR East and JR West passes. Check with your local travel agent for the best option or click on the link to see for yourself!

It would take 1 1/2 hours on the Kodama Shinkansen from Nagoya to Shizuoka which is on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines.
The Hikari Shinkansen (faster) takes an hour and stops at less places on the way.

1.-JR tokyo station..
.by Shinkansen on NOZOMI is 100 min...to JR nagoya station...
2.-JR shin osaka station.

From NAGOYA station to the expo
1.-JR NAGOYA station.

...shuttle bus......NAGAKUTE AREA....

To alleviate traffic congestion at the EXPO2005
Driving from yaizu to nagoya takes about 2 hours on the TOMEI, with a cost of almost 4000 yen, ONE WAY......
The expo recommend that people take public tansport to get to the expo site.........
Anyway I went by car, their is no parking on the expo ground but parking spaces are available about 20 kilometers east from the expo.....
When you park your car at the 6 parking lots available, there is a fee of 3000 yen for the whole day......You will take a shuttle bus which takes 20 to 30 minutes ride to any of the main gates......
the last bus back to the parking lot is 930pm...The picture shows a chip that you get from one of the vending machines for paying for your parking fee

Nagoya International Airport opened in February of 2005 just in time for 2005 World Expo in Aichi. It’s the third offshore airport in Japan. This airport is so friendly that you can go up to the roof top to watch your friends/family's plane take off. The accessible bathroom is so huge that there is even a bench inside if you need to rest.

If you are travelling overland to Nagoya from another major city in Japan, the shinkansen (bullet train) is the way to go. It's not the cheapest way to get around but is way faster than anything else.
Here are some times, fares and the duration of travel between Nagoya and both Osaka and Tokyo.
The first Nagoya-bound train leaves Osaka at 6am and last leaves at 10pm. The fare varies between 5500 and 6500 yen one way. Travel time is about one hour and five minutes.
In regards to Tokyo, the first and last trains leave at the same times as they leave Osaka. The fare is 10600 yen one way. Travel time is one hour and forty minutes.
