Toyokawa Inari and Akasaka and Goyu areas are often toured together. After visiting Toyokawa Inari, take Meitetsu line to Nagoya and change trains to local train at Kou. Only local trains stop either Goyu, Meiden-Akasaka and Meiden Nagasawa Tokaido walkers often use to start the Tokaido hike. From Kou take local train bound for Higashi Okazaki. It is run only two to three times an hour. Meiden Akasaka station is the second stop from Kou station.
Getting to Toyokawa from Nagoya is quite easy because there is a direct train service available from Meitetsu Line. (See Rabbityama's tip for detailed info). From Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Tokyo and east side of Japan, however, you need to change trains at Toyohashi and take Iida line. Every Iida line train should stop at Toyokawa, but some trains are super express trains that you need to pay extra fee. Be sure to get local trains(occasionally rapid trains depart from Toyohashi and then you can also get them). After getting off from the train at Toyokawa station, get off at West Exit. If you happened to get off from the wrong exit don't panic. Take a short walk to the woods and visit Sanmyoji temple which has nice jizo statues and three-storied pagoda. If you see cute fox guiding statues, you are right on course.
Toyokawa is served by two train lines: JR Railway and Meitetsu Railway.
On the Meitetsu Line, from Meitetsu Nagoya Station there are trains that go directly to ToyokawaInari Station. If you cannot catch the direct trains, you can go to Ko Station and then transfer to the Toyokawa Line to reach ToyokawaInari Station.
The JR station is Toyokawa Station, so from Nagoya Station (JR), transfer at Toyohashi to the Iida Line to reach Toyokawa Station.
Both routes take about the same amount of time but the Meitetsu trains are cheaper than JR, so it's often the better option.
Toyokawa and Toyohashi are often toured together. Particularly visiting both Toyokawa Inari in Toyokawa and Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Garden(Non Hoi Park) is a popular one.
1 Toyokawa Inari, Toyohashi Park(Yoshida Castle), and Orthodox Church.
After visiting Toyokawa Inari, take Iida Line from Toyokawa and get off at Toyohashi station. Toyohashi Park is about 15 to 20 minutes from the station so use the tram to save time if necessary.
2 Toyokawa Inari and Non Hoi Park.
To get to Non Hoi Park, after taking Iida line from Toyokawa, you need to change trains at Toyohashi and take Tokaido Main Line bound for Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Okitsu, Mishima and Atami and never Nagoya, Gifu, or Ogaki. What's confising is that the train for Nagoya or Hamamatsu may start from the same platform. Check carefully if the train is westbound(kudari) or eastbound(Nobori). Futagawa is the next station from Toyohashi and get off at south exit with dinosaur flower statue. The amusement park is ten minutes from the station. Just follow along the animal and dinosaur statues.
3 Toyokawa Inari and Futagawa-juku Honjin Museum.
To get to Futagawa-juku, get to Futagawa station as mentioned above. But from the station get off at north exit with mountain view. From the station turn right along the road and walk about 15 mintutes.
