Just had a good bath at Dogo Onsen and want to chill out with a beer afterwards? Just across the road is Dogo beer factory where you can try some of the local beer. Pricey, but tasty and with some good food as well.
Around about 800 yen for a handle of beer, so bring plenty of money!
They have three types of beer to choose from, and some tasty food sourced from various places in Ehime Prefecture.

On Sanbancho just off Okaido is Za Watami, a chain izakaya with some nice touches. We had a crab course, with a variety of other dishes plus all you can drink for 4000 yen.
Pretty good value really.

This is one of Matsuyama's better beer gardens. Nearly everything there, alcohol and food is made within Ehime Prefecture itself.
Price depends on whether you go for the normal course, or the yakiniku course. Unfortunately as we found when we visited, the yakiniku course is for 3 or more people.
There's a good view of Matsuyama castle depending on where you are seated.

Spice Kingdom (in Japanese supaisu oukoku) is a chain of restaurants in the Matsuyama area, with restaurants in the Okaido shopping arcade, near Ehime university, and also in Shigenobu and Tobe.
It's authentic Indian food prepared by Indian chefs, and at good prices. Mains tend to start from 700-800 yen, and you can get lunch for 600-800 yen. Great food and good value.

Iyotetsu kaikan is my favourite beer garden in Matsuyama. It's a rooftop beer garden and is open from May to September. 3000 yen for all you can eat and drink.
Many a happy time has been spent there by yours truly.

This little restaurant looks like a fastfood restaurant, only that it serves very spicy and delicious noodle soups. It's a good place to go if you want good, inexpensive food in a relaxed atmosphere.
Favorite Dish: We have tried two different soups, they were both good. Just point on the menu at the soup that looks the most appealing to you.

The department store at the city station for example has a large food section in the basement, where you can buy fresh food like fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, cakes, bread etc. There are also stands where you can buy small snacks like marinated chicken sticks or other food. Sometimes they even offer free food samples like small fish, chestnuts or pastries. Everything here is perfectly presented and decorated, it is so much fun only going through and looking, it's all so clean and fresh!
Favorite Dish: We especially liked the chicken marinated in different sauces. And it's not expensive at all.

In the summer there are a number of beer gardens operating in Matsuyama.
Takashimaya and Iyotetsu are the two I prefer as it's possible to stay from opening time to closing time. Some of the other places give you two hours and no more.
Favorite Dish: Beer. I love beer.

When you visit Matsuyama, I recommend five colour noodles which is beautiful - white, yellow, brown, green, red!
white is made from buckwheat, red is Japanese apricot, green is Japanese tea, yellow is egg.. natural coloring.
Favorite Dish: This restaurant's every noodles is delisious, but I recommend Tai-somen.
so,in Setonaikai area there are a lot of Tai(Red snapper),which is very fresh!

A nice and restaurant for all kinds of people. The staff doesn't speak english so take your holiday dictionary with you. They have real great 'sake' here.
Favorite Dish: The 'shabu shabu' with spidercrab is real great. Shabu shabu is an bouillon which is made at your table by yourself. You get all kinds of vegetabels and meat or fish or crab of your choice. you put in the ingedients yourself and get them out when ready. Very tastefull. Also try Sukiyaki.
