Luggage and bags: Fukuoka Airport is conveniently located near the city centre. It is not too difficult to take large bags on the subway as there are escalators. However, I have found a backpack type bag to be far more practical on my many travels from Fukuoka.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Fukuoka is cold in winter but it rarely snows so warms jumpers and a jacket to keep out the cold wind will be fine. In summer it is very hot and humid so cool, loose clothes are the order of the day! Rainy season is worse in Kyushu (where Fukuoka is located) so don't forget a rain proof jacket. An umbrella will be OK but in a typhoon - useless.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Fukuoka is a very big city, anything you may want/need will be here. I don't recommend visiting a Doctor in Japan, usually a trip to a Pharmacist will be Ok as they give pretty good advise about what medicines to take.
