Canal City is a large complex of fashion, theatres, restaurants and hotels.
It is supposed to be designed for young people. It is not like an usual department store.
There are a lot of fashion and sports shops in the shopping section. No local shop but all well known.
In the same building, there is eating section and theatre section.
I liked the building since the shape is not square, interestingly distorted and the site has a courtyard with a canal.

Canal City Hakata is a complex commercial facility, is located between JR Hakata station and Tenjin subway station.
The facility is composed of an amusement area, shops, restaurants, a cinema, a musical theater as well as hotels.

The facility is one of must-visit places, when you come to Fukuoka.

Tenjin is the biggest shopping district in Kyushu region that offers department stores, fashion boutiques and unforgettable restaurants galore.
Underground Shopping Arcade, Tenjin Core, Mitsukoshi, Iwataya, Daimaru and IMS are all favorite spots.

Here is a must-visit area in Fukuoka.

Canal City is a huge shopping mall on the edge of Nakatsu and a 100 yen bus ride from both Tenjin and Hakata Station area.

The mall has numerous shops, restaurants, 2 hotels, a cinema complex and theatre.

Sometimes I would come to Fukuoka just to hang around this place! It is my favourite shopping place in Kyushu.

You name it you can get it at Canal City! It was a great place to pick up items that fit foreigners too!

This isn't a cheap place to shop.

Canal City is not just a mall, it's an entire area where you can find tons of great things to look at and buy. The mall itself is filled with trendy name brand shops, including the Gap, North Face, Eddie Bauer, and so on. Around the mall, there are lots of little shops, and a long shopping gallery that spans over three blocks. The gallery has lots of places where you can buy crafts, clothes and other fun items.

The best shop that I found was in the long gallery. There was a wonderful paper shop that sold writing and craft paper, as well as gorgeous paper prints. Also, look for tea and tea services, including all the accessories. You can also buy Japanese print fabric (for all you sewers and quilters out there).

I spent about 1000Y in the paper shop, and bought two prints and two packages of calligraphy paper. I also got a stamp made for about 1500Y. I'd say that $1USD is just under 100Y.

This store was formally known as Hakata Riverrain.

    Business hours are 10:00A.M-8:00P.M

It is a great place to go for high designer brand goods shops such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Fendi etc etc. and there are over 7 floors of it!

I didn't do any shopping at this mall, but it was still neat to visit. From the outside, it looks like a big box, not at all attractive. But once you get inside, it's really neat. The stores line an inner courtyard. They are built into facades that look like tall colorful buildings. There was a neat little Asian goods shop, and a great tea shop. The rest of the shops are name brand chains. If you go, just go to have a look at the inside!

I was so excited to find a Lush in Fukuoka! I'd been craving Lush, and it was a pleasant surprise, as I had thought there wasn't one here!

To find this shop, visit Canal City shopping center, near Hakata Station. It's located on the third floor!

Prices are similar to those at other Lush stores.

Connected to the Tenjin subway station is a long underground shoping mall of some 400m with hundreds of shops selling mainly women's clothes.

Prices are mid to high end.
