They are everywhere in Asia, it seems - squatter toilets. For those of you from the West, these can seem like odd entities, and a bit of a pain for you ladies.
A few things to know. In Fukuoka, most of the bathroom facilities in public buildings (read: those that were cleaned regularly) were Western style toilets. If you plan on taking in any parks, however, you will encounter this style of toilet in the public washrooms. Make sure you carry a package of tissue with you, there is no toilet paper available at these locations.
