Hakone. Take the Romance Car, the little train that zig zag's it's way up the mountain. Then the funicular to the 'ropeway' over the peak and the sulphur mines. Eat the eggs cooked in the volcano, take the pirate ship across the lake. Great fun. Sushi breakfast at Tsukiji fish market
Cherry blossom, Takashimaya, the bon festival in Chiba, the range of noodles - my favourite meal on a hot day has to be zarusoba. Leave a Comment

Hello: Tokyo is a great central area to start with. It's easier to travel to other places from Tokyo since there are more shinkansen (train) routes to the 4 main island. Before you plan your trip, you have to consider the season. Its almost summer and if you do not like hot weather, then you have to go to Northern Japan (Hokkaido)first. If the weather does not bother you then I recommend that you go to the following: Heritage - Kamakura and Yokohama are close to Tokyo. About 1-1.5 hrs bullet train. Kyoto is farther South, but if you love history, traditions, and culture, then this is a wonderful place to go to. Hiking - Fuji depending on the weather and Nikko up North offers heritage and nature in one. Nature - Hakone-Fuji-Izu. Too many tourist since its so close to Tokyo. If you go there, better stay there for a few days so you can manage your time depending on the visitor off-time. **Do not miss: Stay in a Ryokan (Traditional Inn) with Natural Onsen (Hot spa); Check the festival calendar when you plan your travel; take JR Rail Passport if you plan to stay longer and if you plan to travel all over Japan. It's cheaper than buying tickets from the station (http://www.japanrailpass.net/). Japan is a wonderful country. I'm planning to go back sometime December. This time to Hokkaido. Enjoy!! I don't know what the person means by limit yourself to 5 temples. Its absurd. Japan's heritage is a mix of many asian cultures, in addition to their own 'animism', as they call it. All the temples in this country have unique characteristics, and therefore, in my opinion, are worth a visit. If you are limited to a certain number of days, then pick the temple or shrine whose picture catches your eye in a brochure. I had the opportunity to live in Kyoto for a year, and its hard to turn a corner and not see an eye-catching attraction. If you have the means, I suggest making your way to Kyoto and renting a bicycle. You can even buy one cheap (used at about 3500 yen, or $30 U.S.). The city is laid out on the Chinese system, most streets running north/south, east/west. This is a unique city for Japan, because it has street names! The city is pedestrian friendly, and plenty of nightlife can be found on the streets. Kawadoko (riverside dining) is a popular summertime attraction. Make your way to Kamogawa (duck river), and sanjo dori anytime after 6pm and you will see people gathered en masse just having fun by the river. If you dont speak Japanese, this is a great place to meet other foreigners, and possibly learn more about Kyoto. Either way, do not limit yourself at all before you go, in my opinion.
Shosoin! An old museum whose archives are only on display once a year. Waiting in line in the deer park and drinking beer is a fine precursor to the artifacts on display inside. I miss handmade black sesame miso flavor ramen when I am away from Japan. I also miss natto! Leave a Comment

I forgot one more things......I think people misunderstand a bit here.....for suitcase space yes, for narita express they have space to put but for sinkansen I had a little space. ask if you are buying a checket for green seat put you in the end(each carrige end seat has bit of space if I remember correctly just ask if the have a space), if not then just put aside. I'm sure people doesn't mind as long as you show them respect. Leave a Comment

I spent 4 years teaching, and whilst it's not as lucrative as it was, you earn enough to live, get some travel done, and save a little at the same time. There are a number of different chain schools, and also a government sponsored program. There are also hundreds of smaller schools throughout the country that sponsor teachers. Salaries tend to start from 250000 yen a month upwards, however salaries in the industry have been falling in recent times. Leave a Comment
