Favorite thing: Nakatsugawa" not one of the best known places in japan, especially for a international traveller.. After more than 30 trips to japan i had never even heard of the place*
After my girlfriend invited me to visit her family home there i was lucky enough to spend 2 months there..wow, the first few weeks were pretty boring, but then the place grew on me..
Situated at the base of mountains, well linked to Nagoya via train, its even only a few hours to Tokyo on the JR highway bus..the city can seem isolated but it really is not
The organic food there, the slow pace of the people, the small rivers, abundance of cafe"s ? restaurants its just great
If you want to get away, go to Nakatsugawa..also Ena next suburb is a nice place to shop, big electronics store, fashion shops that are affordable, its lovely
Be careful though ,, you may never wish to leave!!
Fondest memory: the incredible Mountain views
