Teddy Bear Eco Village Cafe: For everything teddy bears!

Teddy bear biscuit

We wanted to check out the Teddy Bear museum but found the entrance fee of US$ 5.11 a little steep just to look at teddy bears.

Decided to visit the teddy bear shop which is next to this cosy cafe. We took a seat outdoor as the weather was cool and perfect and the garden was lovely.

Favorite Dish: The cheese cake here is fabulous and comes in a set with a pot of team for US$ 5.11. What's unique here is that everything is following the teddy bear theme from the cutleries to the biscuits!

Ebisu: Slurping on soba (noodles)

Ebisu
2 more images

Ebisu is located in a very old and charming building. This little restaurant can only fit less than 20 people. Low tables are set on a platform and you need to remove your shoes to get onto the platform and sit Japanese style (with knees tucked beneath you) on the table. There are no chairs unless you want to have your meal on the bar top facing the kitchen.

This is where the locals eat as there is no English menu and all we had to do was to point out to pictures and what other patrons are eating to order :-)

Don't expect frills here. It's all eat and go.

Favorite Dish: For a set of soba with tempura, soup and condiments, it costs US$12.77. It's a hearty meal, perfect for the cool weather outside.

Agura: Izakaya-style Restaurant

What Will I Order?

Being an Izakaya-style restaurant they serve more than just Japanese food. It's a great place to go if you've got people who feel like different things.

They have an English menu and the staff will do their best to communicate with you.

Agura also plays some great Jazz CDs and it's a warm and cozy atmosphere.

Our second visit to this restaurant we tried shabu shabu. It is a big pot of boiling water. You put vegetables and meat in this boiling water at your table. Just stir a little, take it out and eat it.
It looks great on the table, but we didn´t found the taste that interesting.....

korikori beer

In restaurant Suzuya (see previous tip) they sell this local beer. It served in a beaker instead of a glass. It is expensive (700 Yen = ca. 7 $), but it tastes great!

Korikori beer is brewed in Hida Takayama by the Ji Beer Hida company.

SUZUYA is a traditional japanese restaurant. They serve dishes that are special to this area. Hida beef ( beef with fat like vains through it) is used in many dishes.

Favorite Dish: Suki Yaki
We also tried the shabu-shabu, but didn´t like that as much.
