There is a special highway bus from Osaka, via Kyoto to Takayama. It runs twice a day. Tickets have to be bought in advance, as the bus has reserved seats.
The bus is operated by Nouhi-bus. We bought our tickets at the OCAT busstation in Osaka.

The most welcoming busstop we ever encountered was in Gifu-ken. It is the Kami-Tochio busstop on the Takayama <>Hirasu-Onsen<>Shin Hotaka Onsen busline.
Notice the soft pillows in the busstop....
