Farm Tomita also features a dried flower exhibition, perfume and distillery workshops, a green house and several gift shops selling lavender goods ranging from lavender soft cream to dried flower bouquets, oils, perfumes and soaps.

Farm Tomita stands in Nakafurano Town. During the lavender season, some trains on the Furano Line stop at the seasonally operated "Lavender Batake Station", from where the farm can be reached in a 5 minute walk. Otherwise, it is a 30 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride from Nakafurano Station. By car, the farm is about 10-15 minutes from central Furano.

All around Biei and along the highway between Biei and Furano, you can find shops selling local produce. Melons, which are a famous local product are available from mid-June. They are not exactly cheap but are extremely sweet and juicy. Best enjoyed whilst you are in the region - don't bother trying to bring it home (it's too cumbersome and loses its flavour)

One of the parks with panaromic views of the area. Local specialties are sold in the shop within the park (nothing spectacular, though there are some quirky souvenirs). There is a dirt road going around the hill where you can rent and ride a buggy. So far, this is the only park with buggy facilities I've come across.

I suppose children will enjoy it.

Like the Panaroma Road, there are beautiful spots to rest and take pictures, take in the fresh air and ponder the beauty of nature. Passed by a few cow farms and several restaurants. There are also many "oka-s" or mounts along the way which are essentially maintained parks built at strategic spots that give a panaromic view of the surrounding rolling hills.

Biei "Panorama Road"

Biei is a small town surrounded by a beautiful hilly landscape. One of the most pleasant ways to enjoy the charm of the rural region is by walking, cycling or driving through the hills and along the fields.

For easier orientation, the area south of the town center has been named "Panorama Road" and the area northwest of the town center "Patchwork Road". The English language tourist brochure introduces recommended courses.

Along the roads, there are various observation points, flower parks and some handsome trees and tree groups, which have gained fame through (mainly tobacco related) advertising appearances.

Biei Town is located between Asahikawa and Furano, about a 30-40 minutes car or train ride from either city.

It was such a challenge for us who live in Taipei city and don't do any excercise after school. It was also such a wonderful trip with friends, you can rent a bike from the stores in the front of the station of Biei. You would be provided a simple map with 2 different lines. What we chose is the long one, we spent like 2 hours or more to finish it.

Sights along Panaroma route

This is an area of fields and farms around Biei which is popular with cyclists and drivers. There are many beautiful scenes of fields, solitary trees and flower farms.

Cycling is best done on days with good weather and non-motorised bukes are suitable for cyclists with lots of experience and stamina.

View from Shinei no oka

From Shinei no oka, you can get a good view of the surrounding hills. Many photography enthusiasts set up tripods all over to capture memorable scenes.

If you are cycling, there are so many stops to set up that tripod around the hill for different views.
