There is also another train of the same route called the Cassiopeia, which is all-first-class luxury version which leaves Ueno at 16：20 arriving Hakodate at 4：18.
Here is the only station whereby the train arrives here in one direction, and departs in the opposite direction.
The photos shown here are alas, the economy class version but delightfully retro train as described at top.
The lounge car has a pay telephone, which was a nice chance to use up dozens of those decades-old, non-interest-earning, pre-paid "telephone cards" accumulated over the years which has long since gone the wayside to today's mobile phone culture.

You don't really need to take trams to anywhere else in Hakodate other than probably to Fort Goryokaku or to the Yunokawa Onsen. Pllaces like the Motomachi District, Mount Hakodate and Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses are really within walking distance from one another. Price of the tram is really dependent on the distance traveled (200 - 240 JPY).
Do always remember to take a ticket when you board the tram. On the ticket there will be a stop number, and the price of your fare will be reflected on a LED display board near the driver - Just check your fare out by tallying it with the stop number. Drop the ticket and your coins into the machine slot and you're good to go! Well you can also bring out all your coins with your ticket when in doubt and the kind driver will calculate your fare and make the payment for you. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The ropeway station is found in the Motomachi District and costs about 1160 JPY for a return trip up and down Mount Hakodate.
