Where else but in Japan would you get naked with your friends and take a bath? Obihiro is close to the famous Tokachigawa Onsen (Tokachi River Hot Spring).

The water is naturally enriched underground in vegetation making this one of two 'mole' onsens in the world. It is said that the water heals and beautifies your skin. Even if the water doesn't do any of that, the experience is wonderful.

For those who are nervous about getting naked with other people around, the baths are separated by gender.

The resturant is family run by some extremely great people. They offer what has to be the best service in Japan. Any trip to Obihiro must include a stop here.

Favorite Dish: Moccaccino and Fruit Curry Pasta. They are my own concoctions that they have added to the menu and have become famous. They have been in the newspaper twice a month since they added them to the menu.

You can get a plane directly to Obihiro from Tokyo. If you already find yourself in Hokkaido, there are regular buses and trains between Sapporo-Obihiro-Kushiro; it's about a 2.5 hour train ride or a 3.5 hour drive.
Within Obihiro, the public transportation isn't great and it's expensive. Use a bike or rent a car or hitchike.

    World's Second Largest Park Bench

In Green Park (within walking distance of the train station) there is a 400m park bench. Maybe the bench isn't so spectacular but the park is nice. You'll find park golf, a zoo, a museum, an art gallery and a horticultural center all within the park.

Favorite thing: Go back to where you came from. There is nothing really of interest here in Obihiro. The people here are exceptionally nice and friendly, not to mention relaxed and laid back. But the are also less educated and less likely to speak English than in other areas. It is an agro-industrial center in the middle of the Hokkaido heartland. Come here if you like farms.
