Favorite thing: When you walk in the center from the canal to the clock tower, you will see a variety of old buildings. The point is that they have a plate in front of them, so you can read what they are in English and Russian.

Favorite thing: Otaru Museum. The museum is in a beautiful/historic building that was formerly a storage warehouse. Here you can see photos and artifacts from Otaru’s colorful past. The second building has a large collection of butterflies from the area. The museum provides a packet with English explanations. Best of all the admission is only 100\ (less than a US dollar).

Favorite thing: If you have some extra tiem while waiting for the train visit Center(or Central) Market. It’s a covered shopping arcade near the station. There are quite a few interesting shops and the prices are very reasonable.

Favorite thing: Along the canal you find these one storey buildings. Unfortunately, I don't remember what is what. So just enjoy the photos.

Favorite thing: Visit the canal of course! What else is there to do besides shop and eat? Make sure you have some delicious seafood while you are here, or if you are not that way inclined, tuck into the ramen!
