Tourist buses drop mainly local tourists who quickly walk around the lake or take a cruise. There is a information centre there with good information on the flora and fauna of the region. Enjoy the scenary or flowers in bloom (we saw plenty of azaleas and lily of the valley)

Not surprising, you can also find souvenir shops or ice-cream stands around the jetty.

Enroute from Shikotsu ko to Toya ko lies Soubetsu where there are many fruit farms. Entrance fees to the farms usually include fruit picking. When we were there in June, strawberries were harvested for sale (very sweet and fragrant) and we saw tiny apples forming on the branches/ Other than that, no other fruits were in season.

The farmers are friendly and will frankly tell you if there isn't any fruits to view or harvest if you enquire. They also sell home pressed apple juices that are too sweet for my liking.

August to October are best times when grapes, peaches and apples are harvested.
