Noboribetsu Bear Farm

There is something really distasteful to me about so-called bear farms. It is a personal thing, others may enjoy this sort of entertainment.You get to feed the bears and watch them perform tricks. : \Take the ropeway up the mountain to the farm. Maps at most hotels/ryokans will show you the way. Enjoy the bear for the strong yet gentle animal it is. And keep trying to convince yourself that they are still cute and happy at the farm. -Go for a hot springs bath. The Dai-ichi Takimotokan Hotel has floor after floor of hot spring pools, waterfalls and steam rooms. There is even a big swimming pool with a waterslide.Back in 1999 it cost 2000yen for non-guests. Guests of the hotel gets to play all day for free.

Luggage

The country railway stations do not have lifts or escalators. Lugging luggage and ski gear up many stairs to change platforms is not a pleasant way to start or end your vacation.The porters are not willing to help either. Make sure your ski bag has well padded handles and you carry a back pack rather than suit case. No one will steal your gear if you carry it from one area to another one item at a time. Advance forward all your ski gear and luggage. Black Cats delivery service will forward it in advance for just a few thousand yen.

Marimo Museums

The Akan-ko area is known for Marimo - cute green round balls of algae found on the floor of Akan Lake.A few museums in the immediate vicinity have dedicated themselves to the sole subject of marimo.Unless you are extremely interested in marimo and how they came about......avoid these museums as they can be a waste of time and money. Avoid the museums and buy a marimo souvenir. They are really cute, and can be quite cheap. And available in most gift shops in Akan-ko area. Summer - Boating on Akan-koWinter-all sorts of winter sports.
