Along the lakeside promenade of Lake Toya are footbaths where you can soak your legs in warm water. I had my footbath at the footbath in front of the Toya Kanko Hotel where I stayed.

Every evening from May through October, there is a fireworks display on Lake Toya from 8.45 pm and lasts for around 20 minutes. I was fortunate enough to stay in a hotel facing the lake so I had a wonderful view of the fireworks.

Mt Showa Shinshan is located near Lake Toya. Showa Shinzan is one of Japan's youngest mountains. The mountain suddenly rose from a flat wheat field to its current height of 290 meters between 1943 and 1945. According to the contemporary reign of Emperor Showa (1926-1989), the mountain was named "Showa New Mountain".
Still venting sulfurous fumes today, Showa Shinzan stands directly next to Mount Usu, which bears responsibility for the new mountain's birth.

If you want to experience a real traditional Japanese-style dinner, the Lake Toya Kanko Hotel offers you just this. You sit on a tatami mat and your food is served to you on a low table. When you order drinks like sake, the waitress will crawl from table to table to serve you.

Favorite Dish: Sashimi, sushi, tenpura etc.
