The He Gate

In the picture you will see one of the many gates of Himeji Castle. Gates are strategically positioned, so much so that enemies will be confused, trapped and vulnerable to the attack. Most of the gates are of different styles and of original structures.

You will see in the photo a glimpe of one of the gates called the He Gate. This is smaller compared to other gates within the castle premises. Nevertheless, this is built with the purpose of protecting the castle.

Yes, Himeji is not only for the castle. As you exit the JR train station, you are headed to an indoor market. You can have full selection of food, souvenirs, and items that you can only buy in Himeji. This row of establishment leads to Honmachi Street where Himeji Castle Administration Office is situated. I will give you the complete information of the office with this tip.

Marker : Himeji City 100th Anniversary

I took this picture on our way to Himeji Castle. We walk through a municipal park where colourful flowers fluorish. I found this marker in this park commemorating the 100th anniversary of the city of Himeji.

This marker gave me the courage to collect more information about the beautiful city of Himeji and want to share with you some piece of information....

In 1889, Himeji municipal administration is launched with a city area of 3.03 square kilometers and population of 24,958 and the city hall is founded in Shimoshiragane-cho.

The photo I posted here are displayed and can be found at the Himeji Castle. A great number of concave roof tiles and Korean roof tiles can be seen on the roof of the buildings at the castle. The inverted triangle-styled roof tiles are called the Korean roof tiles. I find these roof tiles very detailed and unique.

The photo shows a sign that this part of the Himeji Castle used to be the Guardhouse where a couple of guards were posted or assigned at all times.

This guardhouse has guns and arrow holes which is very important because it leads to Bizen Maru - the residence of Lord Ikeda.
