Yes, this is either a good advice or not-so-good situation to any tourist. Himeji Castle is just a castle, but it is a castle in its own right. There are so much to see and explore. You will spend so much time going around depending on your curiosity and interest. Prepare yourself for a minimum of an hour and a half to complete your tour. You need to walk a lot and climb the stairs. There are not a single elevator as almost everything you will see are preserved and original. Moreover, as I mentioned above, it takes more than an hour to spend in the castle. You will spend another one and a half hours wandering around the vicinity like the Nishioyashiki Garden, Shirotopia Memorial Park, and the three museums namely, Literature, History and Art. You need to allot ample time for Himeji Castle and its vicinity. It will be very tiring if you don't.

There are a few homeless people who like to sleep & hang around JR & Sanyo Himeji Stations. They won`t bother you but they really smell!!! If you have to walk by them, don`t walk close to them. I`m not saying this to be mean but they have a really offensive body odor. They sleep & urinate along the sides of the walls. It`s really nasty so beware of those areas when you are near the station, especially south of the station & the underground passageway between JR Himeji Station & Sanyo Dept Store. Leave a Comment

When you are walking on Miyuki Dori, the shopping street on the way to Himeji Castle, be careful on bicycles passing or coming towards you. Riding bicycles on this shopping arcade are forbidden but people do it anyways. So be careful not to get hit by one! Leave a Comment

the Tiger Pub I can't remember how many nights were spent here.... Apart from the Peruvian place (I got into a fight with the owner's friends) it's Himeji's only foriegner bar. Aparently it's gone down hill in the last few years. Yayoi (one of the owners) is the only reason to go back. Leave a Comment
