Favorite thing: When you first arrive, you have to take off your shoes. There are ladies in this area who will look after them for you. If you are staying at one of the ryokans, you should wear the ryokan getas (wooden sandals) to the onsen.
Men & women go into separate bath areas. There is NO MIXING!
You have to take off EVERYTHING before you go into the bath area. No one wears bathing suits & you are probably not allowed to. If you were to wear one, you`d be the ONLY ONE & EVERYONE would look at you.
You must cleanse yourself thoroughly before you go into the baths at one of the showers or faucets. Be sure to rinse away all soap & shampoo before getting into the baths, as they are all communal.
Lastly, enjoy & relax!!

Favorite thing: When going to the bathhouses, you will need your own towel. That`s it. Shampoo, rinse, & body soap are provided for you, but you may want to bring your favorite brands if you wish. I suggest that you bring facial wash too.
A personal locker is provided for you free of charge in the changing room.
