There is a shop in Chinatown that sells steamed pork & vegetable dumplings. That`s their specialty & the only thing that they sell. Suffice to say, they are delicious & there is always a line to buy the dumplings.
Come here & try the dumplings. You have to buy at least two (that`s the rule) & they are quite big (it will take you a few bits to finish one off, not like dim sum portions).

WENDY'S (fast food)
Fast service, very friendly cashiers and extremely clean inside! I noticed the order takers/cashiers clean up immediately when you leave restaurant. In morning, this restaurant not crowded.
Fast food restaurant, menu is similar to Wendy's
in USA except you get much better service in Japan! (Dave would be so proud!) Taste is so much better too!
Favorite Dish: Breakfast menu-bagel breakfast sandwiches
choice of ham, sausage or bacon with cheese and scrambled egg.
Other items for breakfast include juice, coffee.

Very creative Japanese-French restaurant. Small but cozy atmosphere. I don't think the waitress (chef's wife) can speak much of English, but hope they will do thier best to communicate with you.
Favorite Dish: Umeniku (plum) sauce steak, yumyum and lots more I'd recommend you to try.

great location, just in the middle of the city`s buzzle, in sannomiya. it was newly renovated and became so comfy and trendy :)) relaxed ambience, there is a watermill outside, and the tables just by the windows overlooking it are the best ones, bit more private :)) they are often occupied though, so to get to one, go earlier or later than the usual dinner time from 7-9 pm about.
Favorite Dish: they have mostly japanese noodle dishes, soba and udon :)) i recommend the a set of rice, miso soup, tempura for 1350yen. if u are in for something lighter, try the cold nyumen (kind of thin noodle) dish :)) as a side order u can have o-nigiri, o-inari, or maki rolls made of soba with eel and vegetables filling, it real yummy!!!

this cafe has some cozy sofas, although its always so busy, u might not get one...but no worries, u can get a six pack of choco cros to go with and enjoy them in the comfort of ur own home, or wherever u are staying :)))
st-marc cafe, french style, started in harajuku 2002 :)) it has already made its way to the major cities in japanese, including kobe, gladly enough :D
so what is a choco cro????? well this is what they tell us*
` one day, a little dog, came to a little house with a triangle roof. the dog who is loved by everybody receives guests warmly with a four-leaf clover and a delicious croissant named as he is called.....choco cro :))`
might be hard to believe that a doggie invented such a great delicacy from france in japan....but hey, we must not deny the power of evolution!!!! vive les chiens japonais!!!!
Favorite Dish: choco cros (130yen a piece) are the best of its kind in japan, where we europeans have sometimes hard time finding bakeries that match the refined tastes of pastries and chocolate ....i love the pain au chocolat in france, and the japanese interpretations are well....ummm....nothing near it, with some brown-coloured pudding inside thats pretending to be chocolate.
even though more sweet than the french originals, the choco cro is close enough to take one back to those heavenly parisian mornings of espressos and pains au chocolat :)))

hiroyuki&me, we love this restaurant! capricciosa is the best italian you can find in japan, huge plates & sooo tasty!!! the ambience is nothing special, its like a family restaurant with italian pop on the background. its the food that takes u to heaven!!!
Favorite Dish: they have many choices of different kind of pasta, some pizza, risotto, salads, some soup dishes and garlic bread.
*highly recommended* cesar salad, anchovis pizza (thick one) & seafood pasta, but even better, the spaghetti arrabbiata!!! its the best i have had in my life!!! also the tiramisu takes ur tongue with it!!! order bigger & share it together with everyone :)) if u happen to have a birthday, all the staff will put off the lights & come & sing `happy birthday` to u in italian :D
if u plan to go many times ( note there are cappriciosas in kyoto, tokyo, and even saipan), ask for the point card :)))
in kobe, there is cappriciosa in the harbourland and in motomachi near emporio armani in the downstairs.
bon appetit!!!

Again, I haven`t been here but this is another vegetarian restaurant that I found for you folks. It`s an Asian restaurant that has semi-vegetarian food. I don`t know what that means but that`s what it says in the ad. No meat (beef, chicken, or chicken, etc) is used.
Open daily 11:30am-10:30pm.

This cafe is entirely SMOKE-FREE!!! That`s really hard to find in Japan. Alot of people smoke in this country & although there are some new laws now being passed regarding smoking areas, smoking is still permitted in alot of establishments.
There are two floors here (all walled in glass)& you can order light foods.
There is also a small internet cafe on the premises. It`s FREE but there are only 3 computers so be prepared to wait.

I haven`t been here but I thought I`d let you know about this restaurant because there aren`t alot of vegan restaurants in town. Almost all ingredients are organic; breads & desserts are wholemeal. Natural syrups & beet sugar are used as alternatives. They offer a vegetarian menu including vegetarian pizza, beans burger, vegetarian burger, diet konnyaku (like a jelly) pasta with four homemade sauces, salads, rice dishes, eggless French millet quiche, pumpkin soup, soymilk cake, dandelion coffee, organic wine, etc. (Wow, maybe I should come here someday!! Sounds good!!).
They have a smoking & non-smoking section.
From the article I read, their prices are pretty fair & not so high. About 600-1000yen for entrees. They do have a set lunch course for 1480yen that includes soup, salad, rice, an entree choice, dessert & coffee.
Their dinner courses are 2000yen & 3500yen, though I don`t know what they consist of. I`m assuming their set menu changes daily.
