If you like Indian curry, than this place is for you. For 840 yen you get all you can eat salad, curry, rice and Nan. If you can believe it, you can pick and choose between 6 different curries. The quality is also extremely high considering the price. The only down side is its location. The restaurant is located on the far side of town, near the university. The location is pretty much out of the way for tourists. Its well worth the effort though, especially if you’re hungry.
FYI, they do not speak English nor have an English menu. Just say “Viking” when you go in.

If you’re in Higashi Chaya district and want to get the full Japanese experience, check of the Ochaya Shima teahouse. It still has very traditional décor and staff, whom are fully dressed in kimonos.
They’re opened from 9am to 6pm.
Expect to pay around 400 yen for tea.

You don't see this shop. You smell it first. Your senses are assaulted by the lovely smell of maple puffs baking. No doubt, a clever marketing ploy.
Every 20mins or so, the puffs emerge, and the baker deftly injects cold cream into the bun for a delectable snack that has been kanazawa's most popular export since rice.
Favorite Dish: That's it. Just the Maple Shou. Have one as it emerges warm from the oven when the temperature hovers around freezing.

Address: 4 branches in Kanazawa now.
Slightly larger than a hole-in-the-wall type eatery, the chef exgages you in friendly banter as you dine comunally with the locals. The atmosphere can get slightly rowdy.
Shout your order to him, or gesture to the many side dishes laid out before you. They are ordered much like Spanish tapas, and a few dishes would easily constitute a full meal.
Favorite Dish: Grilled Camembert cheese. Ok, so it isn't strictly Japanese food, but the chef grills it with the skin intact. Bite off the skin and the melted cheese ooses out.

Address: Somewhere in Katamachi (not much help is it?)
The market-hall in Kanazawa! There are Sushi-bars everywhere!
Favorite Dish: The market is noisy and smelly like any other market, but the vegetables and the fish just look perfect. Vegetable in Japan doesn't look like real vegies! But you can eat it! And it tastes perfect!
