Marugame Castle is one of only 12 original castles remaining in Japan. It dates back to the mid-17th century. Along with its original tenshu, the castle walls are well-preserved. The tenshu is rather small but I think many tourists undervalue the beauty and historic value of these original castles. It's age and authenticity make it more important than most other castles in the nation.
The tenshu has three stories. The first story has some artifacts while the other floors are relatively empty.
The view from the top of the hill of the surrounding area is excellent, as well. The surrounding hills and mountains in the distance are beautiful!
The park and castle grounds are free but entrance to the castle is just 200 yen.

There isn't much left of Marugame castle. but due to its proximity to Marugame station, I though I'd get off the train and have a look anyway. You can see the castle from the train as you come into Marugame.
