Fujisawa Things to Do

  • Sea Candle

The Sea Candle is an observation tower up on the hill on Enoshima. It gives a panoramic view of the overall area. 300 yen entry.

  • Enoshima Aquarium

I was sorely tempted to place this in the tourist traps section, as I don't believe the aquarium is good enough to justify the 2000 yen entry price. That said, it is interesting enough, and it does showcase the diversity of Sagami bay.The exhibits themselves are generally pretty good, and there is English language signage in a lot of different...

Enoshima island has an amusement park, botanical garden and observation tower which was renovated recently. The island used to be part of the main island but erosion separated it !

  • Enoshima street

To go to the top of the island, you have to follow a curvy street lined up with stores and restaurants. You won't regret the walk, it's wonderful once on top !

  • Observation Tower

You can now take elevator on top of the tower. The view from the top is magnificent. See my travelogue for more pictures.

  • Enoshima Island

If you are in Kamakura then you may want to visit Enoshima Island for a half day trip. Or you may want to visit Enoshima Island for a full day trip.Taking the tram(Enoden line) to Enoshima station is an experience itself. The tram passed through a very narrow street which has houses that were a few inches away on either side of the street. Enoshima...

  • Good Seafood!

This was just around the corner from the hotel and was well recommended on Japanese language travel websites, so we gave it a try.It specialises in seafood, in particular crayfish (ise-ebi) and whitebait (shirasu). I thought it was reasonably good value, and the food itself was of a high quality.Recommended.

Enoshima is actually pretty well covered as well as train lines go.

The Odakyu Enoshima line is one way, and it can be reached by the main Odakyu line by transferring at Sagamiono station.

The Shonan monorail connects Enoshima with Ofuna in Kamakura city, where there is a JR station.

Lastly the Enoden line connects Fujisawa and Kamakura stations (both with JR stations) with a stop in Enoshima in between.

There are actually people living on this island ! Get off the main street going up the mountain to walk in the alleys that line the mountain. You will discover the backside of the tourist Enoshima and won't be dissapointed !

  • A temple, no it's a train station

As I didn't arrive on the Odakyu train, when I saw this from afar, I merely assumed it was a temple.Upon closer inspection it happened to be Katase Enoshima station.
