A historical huge statue of Buddha. The wooden building that once housed the statue was struck by a tsunami in Muromachi period, so now the Buddha is sitting outdoors.

A hop step and jump from Kita-Kamakura station is Enkakuji temple.

300 yen entrance for adults. It's quite a big complex, and makes for a pleasant walk around,

The Kita-Kamakura area seemed a lot less crowded than other parts of Kamakura we visited.

At this shrine, you put your money into a little basket and swish it around in the water. This is the pray for more money and wealth.

Don't miss this little cave when you are in Hase Temple. I find the cave pretty interesting despite its small size. Some locals come in to pray. They would write their name on white candles and they would place the candles in front of the respective gods that they want to pray to. For example, the God of Wealth. When you walk further into the cave, you will find lots of little statues (mostly same size) all over the cave. The ceiling is rather low so watch out for your head.

Go to Enoshima (Eno Island), while crossing the bridge over to the Island, you can catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji.

Hachiman is the Japanese Shinto god of war, and divine protector of Japan and the Japanese people. An alternative name for Hachiman is Yawata (god of eight banderoles). His symbolic animal and messenger is the dove.

Since ancient times Hachiman was worshipped by peasants as the god of agriculture and by fishermen who hoped he shall fill their nets with much fish. In the Shinto religion, he became identified by legend as the deified emperor Ojin, son of the Empress Jingo, from the 3rd - 4th century CE.

However, after the arrival of Buddhism in Japan, Hachiman became a syncretistic deity, a harmonization of the native Shinto religion with Buddhism. In the Buddhist pantheon in 8th century CE he became associated with the great bodhisattva Daibosatsu.

If you are still able to walk after the steep slope, climb the stairs up to say a few prayers here.
