As you approach the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (the main temple complex) both sides of the enterance are outlined with ponds overflowing with Elephant ears.

Yes. Exhibits inside are frankly so-so. Anyway really worth a visit in June only for the nice blooming flowers.

I notice that most Japanese they washed thier hand before entering the Great Buddha (Daibutsu).
