The ofuna kanon is hard to miss. When approaching the city from the kurihama side you can see the head of the statue rising above the trees.
A lot of tourists miss it because it's not in the regular kamakura temple circuit. But it is well worth the trip. In addition to the statue of the Goddess of Mercy which stands over 83 feet tall, this temple also houses fragments of stone from Hiroshima and Nagisaki and a lantern lit from the blaze caused by the bomb.
A must see for travelers interested in culture, history or religion. Admission 300 yen for adults. Lots of stairs and a steep hill to reach the statue - not handicap friendly.
