Public transport

The one aspect that all foreigners praise after a visit to Japan is the excellence of its public transport. Buses and trains and taxis can whisk you promptly and safely all over the Kanto - i.e. Tokyo and Yokohama - area. It's a bit daunting at first, but with a good map and plenty of bowing and smiling you can usually end up where you want to be.

Always by train, you can get there from Shinjuku or Shibuya station. It's cheaper from Shibuya even if you are staying near Shinjuku. Take the Tokyu Toyoko line, 260 yen, just 30 minutes.
The best area is maybe Sakuragi-cho Station area. The best way, walking and taking the maritime bus, from the station to Yamashita Park(around 400 yen).

In getting to Yokohama from Tokyo, the best way is to travel by train. The Keihin-Tohoku Line (blue) will be going to Yokohama every 2 min. it will take you 30 to 40min. On the other hand, the Tokaido Line (orange) will also head to Yokohama it will take you 20 to 25 min. to be in Yokohama. You can also take a bus or taxi cab.

The Toyoko Line leaves every 2 min. around Yokohama City. You can also take bus and taxi.

From Tokyo, take the Yokosuka line train to Kamakura. The journey takes about an hour & cost about 1000 Yen.

I took the train on my own. It was easy to get here but not as easy to get around unless one speak Japanese. Try to follow the crowd, that's one way to get to tourist attraction :)

JR trains

I remember my first day, in Yokohama I get lost because there are so many different track of trains, and in one track many distination, it is too confusing for me.
.
I learned my lesson, so the second day everytime I went out from my hotel I go to tourist information center in Yokohama Station and list the details of trains I have to take to arrive to my distination.
.
JR trains, I remember they have English and Japanese written on top of exit door everytime the trains stop at least you know what station it is.
.
Narita Express train it is the best way go to Narita airport a little bit expensive but it is fast and you need reservation. JR East infoline (03) 3423-0111 (English, Korean, Chinese, French, German, Spanish and I think that this is only temporary because of the World Cup Game and they providing language services for tourist.)
.
Yamanote line it is more high tech trains because they announce the next station in English and Japanese language plus English and Japanese written on the exit doors it is excellent.
.
But for other trains going to Odawara Stations I remember they only announce in Japanese language so what I did I have to rely on the map everytime the trains stop and I look outside the window to double check the name of the trains station. Otherewise you miss your stop.
