This is my favorite Soba restaurant in the area. And I consider myself as a Soba connoisseur.
Inside of the restaurant isn't very fancy but has its unique taste, which keeps attracting people. Once you step inside, you feel like you were in somebody's house; you will feel at home instantly, though.
Like many other restaurants, waitress or anyone for that matter understands English so if you see something you might want to try, just point at the food. :)
Favorite Dish: My favorite food here is "Zaru Soba Tororo Tsuki" (cold buckwheat noodles with sticky potato). Tororo (sticky potato) might be a challenge for most non-native people so may be you might be happy to get a "Zaru Soba".
Their hot Soba dishes are also good but with Soba this tasty, it is not Iki (cool) to eat them hot. If you insist on eating hot Soba, why don't you try "Sunki Soba" (Pickled veggie with buckwheat noodles).
By the way, Sunki is also a local product of Kiso and it is made with Kiso-na (leafy green indigenous to Kiso) by pickling with good bacteria that is also found in yogurt. Sunki is totally sodium free unlike other pickles commonly found in Japan. Sunki can be ordered separately as well.
