There are many gift/souvenier ideas in Kiso area, but especially Kiso is known for its Kiso cypress (Kiso Hinoki) and its lacquer wares (Kiso Urushi) so it is recommended to purchase some of them.
You can purchase Hinoki wares and Urushi wares vertually anywhere in Kiso but I highly recommend "Yoshihiko" near by Kisofukushima station. Yoshihiko is very reputable and not only tourists but local people would go there and buy stuff from them.
Urushi and Hinoki wares can be very expensive but they are worth while to buy if you are interested. Those who are on tight budget might want to consider buying something like chopsticks with Urushi or Hinoki chopsticks; they are as cheap as 500 yen (about $4 US).
