Closer to the rim on the East-side (and South West) side, there are almost totally hidden hot-springs. No massive tourism (they go to Beppu and Mt.Unsen) but lovely little secrets waiting to be discovered. Therefor hiking in and around Mt. Aso is highly recommended and will leave you with many lovely memories of the Land of the Rising Sun.
