Favorite thing: In Kumamoto it's possible to get a free internet session in the Kumamoto City International Center. Grab a map from the tourist office in the railway station. The building is marked on the map and is close to the tram stop Kumamotojo-mae and the castle.

Fondest memory: Amakusa Kokusai Hotel. To get to this location took about 3 hour drive from Kumamoto thru winding two lane roads in country. This hotel is like island resort! I fell in love with this location immediately.

Favorite thing: Meet the people. There is a lot to do and the locals are extremely friendly.
Fondest memory: Eating yakitori, riding on a motorcycle through the nearby mountains, and doing my best Dylan impersonation at a karaoke bar.

Favorite thing: Visit KUMAMOTO CASTLE: Completed in 1607, Kumamoto Castle is more martial in appearance with impregnable walls. The original castle was almost completely destroyed in the Seinan War in 1877 & the present reprica is built to evoke the fearsome magnificence of the original castle.

Fondest memory: My friend from Osaka set up an interview for me
with the local newspaper in Kumamoto. I had
learned from my father that his mother and father had lived in Kyushu area. So I took time from business matters over weekend and flew to Kumamoto. When we arrived to Kumamoto we went to the office and I was interviewed. I mentioned I was looking for relatives.
