Hitoyoshi Castle ruin

by gogonicetrip

Hitoyoshi Castle was the residence of the Sagara family who governed the Hitoyoshi-Kuma region for over 700 years, until Meiji restoration. When the castle was reconstructed in 1199, a unique stone with a crescent silhouette was found. Thus, the castle is also known as " Sengetsu" (crescent) castle. Today, some parts of the ruins of Hitoyoshi castle have been restored to their original state, and are now a popular place for local and tourists alike to visit.[Back to Kumamoto-ken]
