A bottle could save your wallet..
The bottled water is expensive in Japan so the running water always is a good option for saving money. The running water in Kyoto is clean and you can drink it directly. However, to me, there is a swimming-pool taste in the water. Here is the tip, you can put a bottle-full in fridge overnight then the taste will fade out in next morning.

Medical Supplies and Photo Equipment

  • I always bring along with me when I take a vacation in a foreign country sufficient quantities of headache/fever tablets such as Panadol, Alvedon or Aspirin in case I may fall sick on my holiday. Medical fees/charges for foreign tourists are usually very much more expensive than for locals. I make sure that I bring along sufficient quantities of Vitamin C tablets too. They are good remedy for getting rid of fru and cold.

Don't forget to bring along in your luggage your daily intake of medicines/tablets if you are on medication.

Among the most important items to be brought along with you whenever and wherever you go on your vacation are photographic equipments. Don't forget to bring along your digital cameras, conventional cameras, digital video recorders and camcorders, batteries, batttery chargers and sufficient rolls of films and/or memory sticks as the cost of batteries, films and memory sticks at most tourist attractions and destinations are expensive.

    Those aggressive mosquitos!
    Dress for the seasons.
In winter, bring those duck-down jackets and scarfs, and gloves. It gets cold!!
In summer, bring singlet tops and jeans/shorts/cargos/skirts.
In Spring & Autumn, bring what you'd wear in summer but also a cardigan or light jacket/jearsey.
Always bring a small fold-up umbrella in your bag. It pours with rain with no warning some days!
Or else, you'll just find yourself buying one from the convienence stores anyway on a rainy day.

Ahhh! In summertime, the mosquitos bite and bite!
Bring mosquito repellent so that you won't be itchy for the whole trip! My friend from Korea visited us, and on her first night here, got bitten 10 times! And once on her eyelid! wow, now those are some hungry mosquitos!

    Shoes
please wear shoes which are easy to take off and wear. You end up having to remove and put on yoru shoes each time you visit a temple or shrine as they don't allow footwear inside. It can get irritating when you go to a few temples in a day.

Just a small backpack to carry your gloves and water and some gifts you bought from the different temples going back to your hotel room.

Warm jackets, gloves and good pair of walking shoes if you are travelling in the winter of Fall season.

Water. Make sure to take your vitamins before heading out to the temples

Sony Cybershoot. Extra chip and make sure to charge your battery before heading out from your hotel.

Water is needed because there is a lot of walking needed to get into the many temples and shrines

    It gets warm in summer
Pack light in summer it gets really warm and humid. Snow is rare in winter but it can get rather cool at times.
