Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion): Have to visit both the Gold...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Have to visit both the Gold and Silver Pavilions. Silver one is just as good, it has a very traditional Japanese garden. A strange display of gravel, plants and water.
Well, the gold pavilion is coated in gold. Isn't that attractive enough? The photograph included is not a postcard. It is a real photo.

    Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion): TEMPLES!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Visit some of the marvelous Temples and Shrines of the ancient capital of Japan, you can choose among hundreds of them.
Very nice places and relaxing atmosphere. If you come from western country (like me) you can enjoy also different architectural style. My favourite are SANJUSANGEN-DO (with 1001 statues of Kannon), KIYOMIZU-DERA (very nice in Cherry Blossom season), HEIAN-JINGU (see intro pic).

Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion): The Golden Pavillion
  • Tip Rating:
  • This has a temple which has Gold leaf all around it. The gardens here are very lush and well established and it is obvious that they are centurys old. The temple with it's phoenix on the top looks really like you are in Japan a century from now as you look at it and the mountains behind.
This is deffinetly a must see if you are in Kyoto. Although you can't go inside the temple walking around it and admiring the gardens is just as nice.
This is really one of the best cultural icons in Kyoto and is really magnificent.

Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion): KYOTO: Golden Pavilion
  • Tip Rating:
  • Actual name of the temple is Kinkaku-ji. The golden pavilion in the centre of the park is unique, not only because it is covered in a thick layer of gold leaf, but also because it is built in 3 different architectural styles. This 'house' was built somewhere around 1220. The whole temple complex is situated in a very beautifull park.
