Ok ... sometimes tour books get a bit over excited on some must do's and recommendations .....
In Fodor's they go out of there way to make sure that if your in the Gion section of town to attend the Gion Corner show !!!! it states traditional Japanese show compacted into about 90 minutes from a Tea Ceremony to Geisha dancing to Imperial music show .... So as suckers we went .... lucky we didn't pay full price and attended the early 7:00 pm show .....
The only thing I can really say was that the show itself was ODD, WEIRD, and I did not understand it at all ..... mind you you are given a program in English to follow along, but it was just too way different for me to understand it ....
Now I wasn't the only one that felt that way ... on the way out .... a couple that sat in front of us told us the same thing .... ODD and weird !!!!
Normal price is 3,000 yens ... we paid 2,000 ... there is also a 7:00 pm and a 9:00 show ....
We thought it was a 90 minute show and after 45 minutes it was over ....And there must have been 500 people waiting to get in !!!! Tour buses fill the parking lot !!!!!!!
I'm thinking the company that owns this show pays FODOR'S so it can write great reviews on it .... but you've been warned !!!!!!

Looking for geisha's? Be satisfied with the knowledge that you are not gonna see them in Kyoto. Even not on the time the billboards in the hostel (J-Hoppers) says they are on location.
One should say this is a tourist attraction, but it's a really trap.

dont go to the tourist show in gion. its a total tourist trap, unless your tired and want to sit for a while. its expensive , and i really didnt think it was worth it. i dont remember the exact name of the show. its all about the geisha though. i think i couldve figured out the history of the geisha in other ways!
Fun Alternatives: check out the nightlife in gion, instead, which i didnt get to do becuase my mom hurt her foot at the temple while stepping wrongly on a stone!

It is not really Kyoto tradition anymore. Many tourists are waiting to take the perfect picture of a maiko in Gion.
