The service includes express or local and there is no difference in price. A limited express takes about 40 mins and is very comfortable Leave a Comment Theme: Train |
The Kyoto train station is a spectacular exemple of modern architecture. It's a pretty strange huge building, a feast of steal and glass, with a huge hall, about 8 stories high. SO, if you come to Kyoto by JR train, take some time to walk around this wonderful structure, altough quite different of the classical temple for which Kyoto is known. Leave a Comment Theme: Train |
The outside of the station is as impressive as the inside. Leave a Comment Theme: Train |
There are a couple of ways to go to Kyoto from KIX. There's the Limousine Bus, the taxi and our recommended choice --- Haruka airport express which is 75 mins and costs normally at 2980 for unreserved seats. Limousine Bus is cheaper at 2300 yen but time is longer, around 2 hours. However, you can actually purchase a one-day Kansai Area Pass by JR-West and you can use this for the Haruka airport express and guess how much it costs? 2000! So overall speaking, this is the best deal because it's not only cheaper, it's also the fastest! You can get the ticket from the station itself which is right outside the arrival section of domestic flights. Earliest departure from KIX is 6:29 am and latest is at 10:18 pm. Leave a Comment |
There are two types of bullet train (Shinkansen) from Tokyo to Kyoto – Nozomi is approx. 25 minutes quicker than Hikari but it costs 10% more in fare. The package we had from JNT Sunrise Tour included one night accommodation at New Miyako Hotel and a pair of return train tickets with reserved seats on the Hikari train. Despite of the quick speed, the train was quiet and as you will imagine was clean and seats were comfortable and reclinable. After a 2 hours and 45 minutes pleasurable ride, we arrived Kyoto station bang on time! I was glad that I didn’t opt for the night bus instead I arrived feeling fresh and energized in Kyoto. The last thing I want when traveling is trying to save some monies on accommodation but waking up feeling even more tired the next day! At a price of 7980 yen for a single trip for Tokyo to/fm Kyoto, I think it’s worth doing. Leave a Comment Theme: Train |
This is a very old train system that runs from Arashiyama to parts of Kyoto city. The cars of the train are rather narrow and at times can get squishy. There is only the one driver operating the train so you need to pay him as you get off. At the train stations there are no ticket machines. And every stop is about 200 yen. (about $2) At some stops be careful for approaching cars/taxis, there are stops which there is no platform to get off onto and you will be directly on the same level as the cars... Took the Hikari 409 Shinkansen (JR bullet train) from Tokyo to Kyoto. Here are tips for an enjoyable ride : - Ask the information counter for platform number as it's quite confusing in the Tokyo station - If you would like to see Mount Fuji, ask for a seat on the right of the train. You'll see it approximately 1 hour out of Tokyo - Washroom and toilet here are fabulously clean after the disaster at Tokyo station |
