To get to Kyoto from Kansai Airport, take JR Line from Kansai Airport to Kyoto Station. JR Station at Kansai Airport is located between Kansai Airport and Aero Plaza, easy to find. I havent used this route yet for when I arrive to Kansai, I take Nankai Express train to Osaka Nanba Station. From Osaka, quickest way is to get on JR Shinkansen train from Shin-Osaka Station. Note: When using Shinkansen train from Shin-Osaka, it costs more. There are also local trains that depart from Osaka. Not sure of routes, check local maps. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Dream bus, or Bullet train. I was blown away by the main Kyoto train station. It was the coolest modern building I had ever seen. It is gigantic and offers all sort of amenities and is extremely clean. Lock up your bags at the station until you can check into your hotel. I would recommend purchasing a one day pass or a sightseeing pass. This allows you to hop on and off of buses all day as well as free use of the subway system. Make sure you get a map from the transit station, map out your destinations, and then ask questions BEFORE you set out. You can see many things in one day if you have a strategy. The one day pass cost 1200 Yen; $12 CAD; $7 USD. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

Fly to Osaka and catch a bus from the airport. Clean, quiet 30 minute ride. It's a good city to bicycle. You can rent bicycles at a place at the southern exit of Kyoto Station--the information desk can give you a map to the place. Although it is crowded, the people don't seem to be bothered by having bicycles on their heels. It is also an easy city to navigate by yourself. It is the only city in Japan that is laid out in grids. That is because it was a planned city built specifically for the Emperor. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

If you are coming in from Kansai International Airport (KIX), and you know where you are going AND have a map and contact number, the best way to get to Kyoto is to take the MK taxi mini-bus service 'from Kansai International Airport to your door'. Cheaper and easier than the train or bus, especially when you are carrying luggage. You should book before, but you can walk to the far left-hand exit of the departure lounge and pay your fare there. If you haven't booked, you may have to wait. If you are planning on travelling in Japan, get a Japan rail pass. Don't ask any questions. Get one now. You'll see why when you get here and it pays for itself in a single return trip somewhere. Use the buses and trains. Kyoto Tourist Information Center (in front of Kyoto Station), International Community House (near Keage Station and the Miyako Hotel), and Kyoto Handicraft Center (on Marutamachi, near Heian Shrine) all have free maps. There are discount tickets, too. These places will be able to fill you in on the details. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

I took the second fastest Shinkasen bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto. The whole journey took less than 3 hours! In Kyoto, you can buy a 'BUS' pass for the whole day for Yen500. It allows you to ride any bus and allows you to hop-on-and-off the bus. Most buses goes to the major tourist attractions. You will get a free bus map which shows you the bus no & stops to all these tourist attractuibs when you buy the bus pass Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The best way to get Kyoto from Tokyo, if you're travelling on the cheap, is a mid-night bus, departs from Tokyo around 10.00 pm and arrives at Kyoto Station in the morning. 14,000 yen return, comfortable seats with earings, blanket and toilet. Use the bus network, 500 yen dayly pass, easy to use also if you don't speak and read japanese at all. Main stops are announced also in English. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

From Going from Osaka ~ Kyoto we took the bus which took about 1 hr 30. We took the shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Kyoto ~ Tokyo which takes about 2 hours. You can go almost all over Japan on the shinkansen. It is quite and comfortable and fast. You can hire taxi's with english speaking drivers who will take you to sightseeing places and can explain about that particular attraction. I found this very helpful as I couldn't speak or read Japanese. It is also possible to go around Kyoto by train but I haven't tried this so I can't comment on it. Travelling by foot would be a good option to travel around the alleyways in Kyoto city. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus
