Aoi Matsuri Featival is a one of the big three festivals in Kyoto, and is held on May 15th every year. The festival started as purification rites in the Heian period, and it involves a parade of costumed nobels, courtiers, horses, and ox-carts between the Shimogamo Shrine and Kamigamo Shrine. |

The most amazing thing about japan was the people....they are gentle, kind and serving. Everywhere we went, the japanese were helpful and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. One of the best stories of japan was a travelling mate left her wallet in the backseat of the taxi...and it was returned to her without a yen missing the next day. They said in kyoto (&prob japan)...this happens 95% of the time! |
